It took her entire life Savings in addition to a bank loan, to make her dream a reality. Dian Fossey was an American Primatologist and conservationist popular to have made extensive study of Mountain Gorilla groups from 1966 until her 1985 murder, she is one behind the book the ’Gorillas in the Mist’’ which she published two years before her death.

Dian Fossey and her Gorilla friend Digit became a victim of mob after being brutally murdered in Volcanoes National Park in 1985 by poachers. It is suspected that she was killed because of her conservation efforts and trying to guard Gorillas.

Trekking to Dian Fossey Tomb is one the finest activity you must not miss out when you visit Rwanda. The trek starts the same time as Gorilla trekking hence the clients should be at the park headquarter by 7 to 7:30 am. With your guide you will drive for 30 minutes from the park headquarters to a point where you start a one hour and half nature walk with a team of experienced guide and rangers sharing with your knowledge about what is on trail mostly about plants, mammals and bird species.

At the site, you will find a house besides where Dian’s grave just next Digit her favorite gorilla friend and other 20 gorillas buried due to different death reason.

Fossey hike experience will make you will feel heartened physically, emotionally and intellectually. Think about being near a grave of a great primatologists who dedicated all his life to mountain Gorillas, she left conservation legacy that still exists even today
