Explore Mgahinga National Park-Where Gold meets Silver
- Mgahinga National Park is an incredible gem tucked into the folds of the Virunga Mountains—where Gold meets Silverback isn’t just a slogan, it’s a promise of rare encounters and unforgettable landscapes with the misty volcanoes to the endangered primates living in the unique ecosystem

What Makes Mgahinga So Special is the park being Primate Paradise Mountain Gorillas-The park is one of only two places in Uganda where you can track these majestic apes.
The park is home to Golden Monkeys-Endemic to the Albertine Rift, these endangered primates are found only in Mgahinga and adjacent parks in Rwanda and DRC.
Volcanic Majesty makes the destination very unique with chain of volcanoes like Mt. Muhabura (4,127m) Mount Muhabura is a beacon in every sense of the word. Its name, meaning “The Guide” in both Kinyarwanda and Rukiga, reflects its historic role as a natural compass for travelers navigating between Uganda and Rwanda. Towering at 4,127 meters, it’s the steepest of the Virunga volcanoes and offers one of the most challenging yet rewarding hikes in the region.
Nestled at the peak is a crater lake approximately 40 meters wide, shimmering like a hidden jewel in the sky.
It’s the highest crater lake in Kisoro, offering panoramic views of the Virunga chain, Lake Bunyonyi, and even the Rwenzori Mountains on clear day
Shared by Uganda’s Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, making it a symbol of transboundary conservation.
The summit offers a surreal moment—standing at the edge of two nations, surrounded by untouched wilderness.
Mt. Gahinga (3,474m): “Pile of lava stones” crowned with a swamp. This is the volcanoes where the park derived its name of Mgahinga
Mt. Sabyinyo (3,669m): “Old man’s teeth”—a thrilling hike where you stand in three countries at once

Easily reached from Kisoro town, with early morning transfers for trekking.
Ideal for both seasoned hikers and beginners looking to conquer the Virunga peaks. Mgahinga is more than a park—it’s a spiritual experience wrapped in mist and mystery
