Mount Elgon is truly a geological and cultural marvel -known as the Nature’s Ancient Throne

Former Giant of Africa, once towering above Kilimanjaro, erosion has shaped Elgon down to 4,321 meters, making it the 4th highest peak in East Africa and 8th on the continent.

Mount Elgon has the Largest Volcanic Base and Its summit spans 8 km wide, forming the largest base of any extinct volcano in the world — a true titan of terrain.

Transboundary Conservation is Shared between Uganda and Kenya, Elgon is now a UNESCO Man and Biosphere Reserve, promoting joint conservation and sustainable livelihoods. The park Biodiversity & Ecosystems is so unique with different vegetation covers ranging from, Montane Forests & Heathlands a home to rare trees like Elgon teak and Elgon olive, plus bamboo forests and alpine moorlands.

Birding Paradise with some endemics and Over 300 bird species, including the endangered Lammergeyer and Elgon Francolin, make it a haven for ornithologists.

On Elgon trails you expect sightings of blue monkeys, elephants, buffalo, hyraxes, and even elusive leopards.

The park is credited for its Cultural Significance of Tribal Heritage-The Bagisu (Bamasaba) and Sabiny tribes call Elgon home. The Bamasaba worship it as Masaba, their ancestral father. Ndorobos of Benet a marginalized group living deep in the forest, preserving ancient ways of life.
